What is RTT ?
RTT - Real Time Text allows you to make a text conversation during an audio conversation. Through this feature, you can then simply send to your correspondent simple messages but also a phone number, a mail, ... that will be clickable.
During this text conversation, your correspondent can see you writing your messages in real time (add, delete, modify some text).
At the end of the call, you can find all the conversations in the call history of Orange Phone app.
Conditions to use RTT
Real Time Text feature is available in Orange Phone app from version 10.2 but is also available in all native diallers (on Android and iOS). This is a feature that needs to be first implemented in the network of your mobile operator (please check with your operator if the feature is well activated in the network).
To use this Real Time Text (RTT) feature, you need to be connected to a 4G or more network or use Wi-fi calls.
In the same way, your correspondent needs to be on a compatible network and to use a device compatible with the RTT feature (quite new terminal on Android 10 minimum, can depend on the manufacturer).
Cost of a Real Time Text call is the same as a classic voice call (can change with your phone plan).
How to activate RTT ?
Availability of RTT feature on Orange Phone can be different regarding the device model and the manufacturer:
on Samsung, Honor... devices (for the compatible models), you need to explicitely activate the RTT feature in the system settings so that it can be visible and activated on Orange Phone. You can launch this activation directly from the ... menu on top right of Orange Phone:
Settings > Call settings > More call settings (bottom of the page)
and in the system menu, go on Real time Text to activate the feature
- on other Android models, RTT feature is automatically activated if the network enables it : the menu entries to manage the feature are then displayed in Orange Phone
RTT Settings in Orange Phone
When RTT feature is available on the mobile operator network and activated on the device, an additional setting is available in Settings / Call settings of Orange Phone : "Real-time Text (RTT)". This setting can take 3 values:
- Activated for incoming calls only (selected by default): you can accept RTT calls requests but you cannot make outgoing RTT calls
- Activated for incoming and outgoing calls: you can make outgoing calls with RTT mode or add RTT to an existing audio call
- Deactivated: no RTT action is available in the app neither for incoming or outgoing calls
If "Activated for incoming and outgoing calls" is selected, an additional setting is available "RTT call from the dialpad": this setting, activated by default, handles the display of the RTT call button directly in the dialpad. You can decide to display or hide this button through this setting.
Call management in RTT
Incoming RTT call
You can receive a RTT call directly sent by your correspondent: if you accept this call (from notification or full screen), your usual call screen will be modified to let you write some text and follow a text conversation in addition to the voice call.
You can also receive a request to add RTT during an active voice call: in that case, Orange Phone accepts automatically this upgrade and the call screen is modified to let you manage the text conversation.
Outgoing RTT call (if setting selected in Orange Phone)
You can make an outgoing RTT call from many places inside the Orange Phone app:
- from the dialpad (according to the setting)
- from the call history (if the last call with the correspondent was a RTT call)
- from the contact card
You can also enrich an active voice call with RTT from the call screen.
Once the correspondent has accepted the RTT call (fresh or upgrade), you call screen is modified to let you manage the text conversation.
